Professional & Personal Growth
Hmm, where do I even start? I have come so far in the past 5-10 years; however, the past 3-4 years have been the most impactful. Have you ever just taken a moment and realized, holy cow, I've done it? I've struggled, I've cried, I've been broke, I've borrowed and bargained just to get by... Now, I'm happy, I'm satisfied, I'm content financially, and most importantly I'm grateful for where I am today.
For those do not know much about the eyes behind the lens, it's me, Krystal. I'm 30 years old with two beautiful and smart young children and a man by my side that loves and supports me. In 2011, I applied for an official business license as "Flash by Faith Photography".
(insider information, I have a degree in Ministry & Biblical History)
After a couple years, I wanted to create a brand and that set the mood for own personal and professional growth as an entrepreneur. My father, Bob Dalton (1959-2013) began teaching me the value in a good brand that people can remember easily. A few months after he passed away, I launched his idea into KS Photos.
Working through the pain of losing my father, I began building my photography business the way he and I had talked about for years. Applying myself in areas of art and business. Six months following my father's death, I was also faced with another life-changing event, where I became a single mother of two small toddlers. Talk about motivation to succeed! Working endless hours in the night so my children did not see a change of still having their mommy for themselves during the day and being able to bring in enough income to support us became a difficult challenge.
With a flux of amazing clients and opportunities, I began growing and becoming more known in the area. There is one production that I give major kudos to for helping my exposure and connecting with local brides / grooms; South Sound Wedding & Event Magazine, plus their amazing bridal shows every January! If you have not visited the South Sound or West Sound Wedding Shows, you must! Paula Lowe and her team are amazing (if you are in the wedding industry or want to be, contact them, seriously).
So this blog is getting lengthy, but I really wanted to put into words for people to read if they are even interested, the value of determination and consistency. My personal life has gone through some ups and downs over the past 10 years, yet I remained focused on my family, myself and creating a world around me that I am proud to be apart of.
As my journey continues and I continue to grow, I have found myself re-branding yet again. Not because the previous brand wasn't catching, but because I am growing and needing to separate my areas of business. It is with a full heart that I announce the beginning of South Sound Weddings!
My team and I have grown to a point that we are able to split into two brands and operate as both: KS Photos & South Sound Weddings. The two areas of focus are remaining in family & commercial photography, and of course, wedding photography. If you would like to more about me and my team, I would be delighted to get together over a cup of coffee, I always love chatting photography and business in general.
If you are a local business and struggling to connect to get your name/brand out there, another fantastic organization to be apart of is Thurston County Chamber. I would love to tell you my success story with this organization, however, that will be a whole separate blog in itself.
